Stephen Kaplan - Owner/PADI Instructor

Steve is a recently retired Navy SEAL and all around ocean lover. He spent the last four years as the lead diving instructor for the SEAL Team based here in Hawaii. As a veteran of many foreign wars, Steve’s unique prospect, value for life, and wonder for the aquatic world is unavoidably contagious. Out of all the extreme venues life has to offer, from skydiving to gun shooting, mountaineering, explosives, combatives, etc.., there is nothing that matches the dichotomy of excitement balanced with serenity that diving has to offer. There’s something to be said about the peace of mind knowing Steve brings the safest, and yet the most trilling underwater experience to Trident Adventures like none other. Steve has a way of making you feel like the underwater world if your personal playground, as all life’s worries wash away.

James Beck - Owner/PADI Instructor

Jim is a recently retired Navy SEAL with over 30 years of experience working in every type of underwater environment this planet has to offer.  He has been dive qualified since 1990 with over 5000 dives. He holds military and civilian instructor/supervisor certifications in Open Circuit, Closed Circuit and Semi-Closed Circuit diving, Submersibles, and much much more. He served as director for a Naval Special Warfare Advanced Training Schoolhouse, focusing on Advanced Military Diving, and now spearheads all the PADI certifications with Trident Adventures.  Diving with Jim and learning from him is nothing short of legendary. His greatest passion is teaching brand new divers, especially those that are initially afraid of diving. There’s a calmness and sense of security that Jim brings to the table that makes you feel like you can conquer the world.

Interested in SCUBA Certification?

Famed explorer Jacques Cousteau once said, "The best way to observe a fish is to become a fish." Learning to scuba dive opens up an entirely new world, and there’s no one better to train with than us. Our relationship with the ocean as former Frogmen is completely unparalleled, and you can rest assured that getting your certification with us is both safe and fun.

“My first experiences scuba diving were with Steve and Jimmy. Never done it before, zero experience. All fear disappeared knowing I was diving with two decorated Navy SEALs. The attention to detail in terms of checking gear and making sure that we were moving at a pace I was comfortable with made an individual like me with no experience feel super safe!

Never at any moment did I feel danger, and because of that amazing experience, I’m now addicted to scuba diving and can’t get enough of it!”
