The introductory certification, the PADI Open Water Scuba Diver course plunges students into the world of scuba diving with a firmly rooted platform in the basics. From the science of scuba diving, to the essential skills needed to dive safely, this course promises to be both fun and immersive for all.
The course begins with an assigned PADI E-Learning code. This online course can be completed at the student’s leisure and must be completed by the first day of class. The in-person portion of this course is broken into 3 parts:
  • Classroom/Pool Session
  • Open Water Dives 1 & 2
  • Open Water Dives 3 & 4
Classroom & Pool Session
This session will focus on the Knowledge Review and honing the basics in a safe and stable environment. Through a process of demonstration and repetition, the instructors will walk students through all essential skills, as outlined by PADI. The swimming pool portion is where the student will begin to learn and train with underwater dive skills.
Open Water Dives 1 & 2
The second session focuses on taking the learned skills out into a real scuba diving environment. Here, the students will begin to demonstrate selected skills from their pool session to an instructor. The instructor will be evaluating proficiency and comfort in the water.
Open Water Dives 3 & 4
Completing the course requires a total of four (4) dives in an actual scuba diving environment. These dives are designed to encourage confidence in the student through demonstration of previously learned skills and the science of scuba diving. Upon completion of Open Water Dive #4, the student will be eligible for processing as an official PADI Open Water Scuba Diver
